Angel Cake Crossword
It took me forever to work out a way of including all the ingredients used to make Angel Cake and keep the crossword totally symmetrical. My next challenge was cutting the letters to a size that would fit within the white squares (the mosaic overall could be no larger than 30cm sq). I then grouted the black tiles black and the white tiles white, but had no alternative but to handwrite the numbers with permanent marker.
I quite fancy a cup of tea and a piece of cake now ……
Looking for somewhere to land …
It wasn’t me!
I’m moving out ……
A new workshop has recently been installed in my garden and I now have space to work and store all my tiles. No more shards of glass on the dining room floor! It seemed only right that a new sign should be made to celebrate.
For those of you who are wondering, the Wikipedia definition of Skunk Works, as originally coined by Lockheed Martin, is “….. an organization given a high degree of autonomy and unhampered by bureaucracy, tasked with working on advanced or secret projects”. Says it all !

Have you ever seen something crying out to be mosaiced?
We often visit a local farm shop with a tea-room and beautiful garden and a couple of weeks ago I was sitting on a bench enjoying a cuppa and a slice of something naughty when I noticed that the bench had two empty oval recesses just crying out to be mosaiced. So, I made templates of the recesses with a brown paper bag, had a word with the owner (who wasn’t sure if she was dealing with a mad woman) and set off home to make my designs.
The birds in the garden gave me my inspiration
I was even surrounded by them when I went back to install the mosaics onto the bench (felt a bit like a scene from a Disney movie!)
I’m going to enjoy sitting here now!

I don’t feed the birds in my garden because I have a naughty cat but a neighbour puts out all kinds of bird food and attracts lots of pretty wild birds into the nearby trees.
