Fun with a ball of wool and cardboard box

I told you Chilli and Bean would feature in more of my posts!

Some time ago a friend sent me a link to an online article where a cat owner had photographed her cat poking its head through a hole in a box, to which she’d attached wool ‘hair’ on the outside, with hilarious effect!  Stay with me, it will all make sense in a minute …..

Chilli & Bean

At the end of October 2020 we adopted two tortoiseshell cats and every day since has been fun and games. We wanted to rename them so we got to know their personalities over the first week and tried out several names before we chose Chilli and Bean (although they’re sisters they are quite different and yet the same). Their new names suit them perfectly … Chilli is quite a spicy cat and is very adventurous and Bean is, well … a bean, very laid-back and gentle!

They both love the garden and, much to our horror, Chilli climbed our tall willow tree within minutes of her first trip out. Luckily she found her way back down with great agility.

Christmas was fun, they found every light and bauble worth a play!

And, of course, they’ve been the inspiration for birthday cakes and there’s no doubt they’ll be appearing in more of my posts in the future!

Kicker & Cracker

Well, I can’t say this painting hasn’t been a challenge, in fact at times I’ve felt like throwing down the paintbrush and giving up.

I was given a slightly blurry photograph of these two cats, sitting on a towel with the rest of the background cut out apart from the arm of the sofa.  Since finishing the cats I have painted in several backgrounds; sitting on a towel, a cushion behind, plain sofa, etc.,  but wasn’t happy with any of them.  There was just too much of one background colour to leave it, so I settle on them sitting on a cushion.  Shading was the next challenge, but I’ve pretty much done the best I can for now.

The thing that kept me going was knowing that it means so very much to the cats’ owners to have this painting in their home :)

Cats and Cake

For my Birthday last weekend I was treated to a visit to Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium in East London.   What could be better than cake and cats?

The cafe is laid out over two floors with tables, chairs and sofas for us humans and shelves, baskets and hammocks for our feline friends.

Cat

It was rather a hot day and I think the 10 or so cats inside were happy to laze about, just out of reach.

Apparently the cats are all from rescue shelters and are all beautiful and look very healthy. Although I went there to enjoy their company, I’m relieved to know they are able to escape the relentless stroking and grooming from us ‘cat lovers’ by retiring to a high shelf or tunnel.

Cake & coffee

The Guinness chocolate cake with cream cheese icing was absolutely delicious :)

Feline Friends

Anyone that knows me, knows of my love of animals.  In particular I have always been cat-mad.  Many years ago when I had two ginger toms I realised that I would prefer for them to be happy at home when I went on holiday, so about 24 years ago I set up a Cat Sitting business, looking after other people’s cats whilst they were away. I have continued to care for friends and neighbours cats wherever we have lived.

Today I’m really excited to tell you about my new website tattycats.com.  If you’re planning a holiday, weekend away or short trip and need someone to pop in and feed your pet, I’d be happy to help.
